Tomas Martin is the son of long-standing Croeso member Bro. Phil Martin. When he was just two years old Thomas developed a rare neurological disorder which has left him severely physically disabled and totally reliant on his power wheelchair. Now 21, Thomas is a charasmatic, determined and likeable young man with a wicked sense of humour and with the love and support of his family and friends leads as active a life as possible.
Tomas’s existing transportation is now very old and tired so Bro Phil is raising money to fund a much needed specially converted vehicle. This will accommodate Tomas’s current and future needs and go some way towards giving Tomas the quality of life he deserves.
Bro. Phil has organised a sponsored bike ride from Blaenavon to High Cross, near Newport and hopes as many as possible will get involved. Members of Croeso took part in a similar ride a few years ago and a great time was had by all. The ride covers a distance of about 20 miles but don’t worry if you’re not a super fit athlete like those pictured above, the route follows a well-maintained, tarmac cycle track through beautiful scenery and is mostly downhill or flat. The event will take place on Saturday 13th June from about 11.00am and, even at a leisurely pace, should take no more than around three hours, not including stops at the many fine hostelries en route!
